The Lost Blog Post

Early in March, accompanied by Dizzy Izzy scrappers Michelle & Jodie, I went out to the Craft & Sewing Show at Rosehill Racecourse.
I came home exhausted, my head full of inspiration and my hands full of bargains.

I had taken fun photos and had planned on doing a really fun blog post for everyone to read our adventures.

But something went wrong and the blog post never happened... This blogging thing is still something I'm getting used to!

It's no secret.

I LOVE CRAFT FAIRS.

The night before I am heading out to a craft fair, I usually can't sleep. The next day holds so many possibilities. What am I going to see? What bargains will I buy? Which scrapping friends will I bump into? What will I be inspired by?  I wake up early and I usually bounce around the house and drive my husband crazy.

Yesterday I headed out to Rosehill Racecourse to the Craft & Sewing show. I was armed with my camera, an empty shopping bag and accompanied by Michelle & Jodie, two of my lovely scrapping friends.

This was my first time out to Rosehill (yes, I've never even been to the races!) and I really enjoyed being able to drive out there, as opposed to catching the train to the Darling Harbour show. 

On the way in we bumped into a few past HQ customers, which I always enjoy. They were taking their daughters to the show for the first time - so cute!

Inside the show I found the layout a little difficult. The stalls were split over two halls, and they didn't seem to have much order to them. It was also hard to find the classes or any little make 'n' takes.

But that didn't stop us. So many stall holders! Ribbon, lace, cross stitching, quilts, chipboard and doilies! Highlights for me were definitely the chipboard stall and all of the stalls using doilies and bunting.

This stall even used doilies IN their bunting!

Bunting is still really popular, and so is the eclectic vintage look that many people have embraced.

One activity that was happening throughout the day was a raffle where the winner go to go into a prize booth and grab as many prizes as they could. So we all grabbed tickets and waited for them to draw a winner.

AND IT WAS ME!!   CRAZY!!!

It was the strangest 60 seconds I've ever had and it was so difficult to grab any of the vouchers without touching the sides. Jodie and Michelle (and probably everyone else) thought I was hilarious, grabbing at air and shoving vouchers down my top.

I came out with 5 pieces of paper - 2 were blank, one was for a free class at the show, one was for a jewellery making kit, and the other was for a quilt pattern of my choice.

We finished up the day by sitting in on a demo about how to revamp your old last seasons clothes into this seasons designs, just with a few easy sewing techniques. I mostly use my sewing machine for scrap pages, but it did give me ideas for possibilities.

A few photo ops later and we were out the door, happy that we had driven so we didn't have to carry our heavy bags home.

Can't wait for the next craft show!

Time to mix it up - APRIL CHALLENGE

So its time to mix it up a little.

For the last few months we have been running competitions through our facebook page - this has been a great way for new 'liker's' to find our page, however time has come to make a few changes. While we will continue to let you know about our competitions via our facebook page we will be running our competitions predominantly through our blog and ........ we will be having special guests or a Dizzy Izzy team member judging the competitions.

We want everyone to enter, so we don't want you to be intimidated by the fact that we will be taking over the judging. While technique and design will be taken into consideration this will not form the sole basis of judging. We understand that everyone is in different stages of their scrapping journey and expertise, so we want to encourage everyone at every level to enter. From time to time we will be asking non scrappers to decide on their favourite layout.

APRIL CHALLENGE

So this challenge is a little bit different from our previous challenges. Your layout needs to be based on, and should include the following;

1) Journalling - there must be some journalling incorporated into your layout

2) Twine - you will need to use some twine on your layout

3) Inspiration - your layout needs to take its inspiration from the image below, that could mean the colour palette you choose, or the incorporation of an egg on your page, or a splatter effect - the ideas are endless, can't wait to see what you do :-)

The final details

- entries need to be in by 7pm 20 May 2012

Our first ever Crafternoon (scrap day)

Last weekend 30 ladies joined Dizzy Izzy for 12 hours of scrapping madness at the Port Hacking Community Centre. This was our first ever scrap day - or as Tracey likes to say Crafternoon, and scrap we did. We had scrappers of all levels from beginner to expert, and the quality and quantity of layouts was really impressive. Tracey and I really enjoyed getting around to seeing what people were up to, its always inspiring to see the perspectives of other scrappers and learn new hints and tricks. We also love helping with scrappers block - so if you ever get stuck please come and ask, we are always happy to try and help.

A big congratulations must go to Susan and Denise who won our two scrapping challenges, incorporation of a button/ribbon and interpretation of a sketch designed by the terrific Tracey. Also congratulations must go to my Mum (Diane) who not only made great tasting sandwiches for lunch but, with a little persuasion completed her first two layouts!!!!!! Go Mumsy :-) I am also going to congratulate myself for doing my first ever spot of teaching - a little make n take featuring my tags. Thankyou ladies for your patience, I hope I taught you something new and easy to do with all those scraps. Great for the kids these school holidays.

Susan & Denise - Our challenge winners!

Both Tracey and I were really impressed with the venue - with fantastic lighting and plenty of room to spreadout your scrap supplies (none of that nasty chairbumping) and a massive kitchen for lunch and dinner prep, we hope to be holding more of these scrap days in the months to come at the Port Hacking Community Centre. We are also currently on the look-out for a Wollongong venue, so if you know of anything suitable please let us know.

The meal plan was a popular option so we are looking to include this at our future events - Di says that soup is on the menu for lunch at our winter Scrap days - stay tuned for more details.

Tracey and I could not put on such events with out little team of helpers so a big shout out must go to the joyful Jodie, delightful Diane, magical Matt and rocking Rob - you guys are awesome. Both Jodie and Di have given us lists of ideas and suggestions to make our days even better and brighter in the future.
